David Mamet Comedy, went with Troy
Starring Mary Steenbergen, Rebecca Pidgeon and Alicia Silverstone.
This Victorian comedy of manners is about two lesbians, a servant named Katherine and an emerald brooch. It's an entertaining potpourri of language and wit.
Pidgeon and Steenbergen flew through the demanding dialogue without so much as a slip, tearing the English language a new one. And Alicia Silverstone was the real surprise as a Scottish maid who took the air out of the sails of these very loquacious women. Alicia really was a breath of fresh air, and handled the accent with ease. Rebecca Pidgeon reminded me of a youthful Joanne Woodward, and Mary Steenbergen was eloquent and dryly sarcastic as the story's fulcrum. And the costumes and wigs were also a hoot!
Solid production, fun play. Not for the underexposed. Reviewed as "wickedly funny." I'd say it was more charmingly, cleverly funny. We're fast David Mamet fans now.
