Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

November 20th, 2005
The Geffen Playhouse, Westwood/L.A.
Play, we went with Troy

Sometimes lauded classics are dry without historical perspective and topnotch casts, and they don't seem very topical. Not true with this one. It's pretty timeless. The cast was solid, though we agreed that Maggie, the Cat herself, needed to be spilling over with Southern charm and mannerisms, and it just wasn't there.

The half-star is for a gorgeous set, which was dripping with southern charm, and the chance to see John Goodman as Big Daddy and Brenda Fricker as Big Mama --wonderful! A real treat.

I'm impressed!! Very cool! I saw Don Quioxte once, and a Mid Summer Night's Dream ... (one of my favorite stories) ... and The Nutcracker, but that's about it.
