The Grand Tour

November 3rd, 2005.
The Colony Theatre, Burbank CA
Musical

The story of a very clever and affable Jewish man trying to escape France ahead of the Nazi's, complicated by falling in love with the fiance of a Polish General as they all try to escape.

Music by Jerry Herman. We went to see this because it's rarely ever done. His music as always is tuneful, bouncy, heart-felt and layered with catchy, singable melodies. And, for this theatre geek, thrilling because we were sitting 4 seats away from him as we watched the production.

Jason Graee is a phenomenal singer and actor, full of charisma and charm and warmth. The man even dances well. And that voice. I'd listen to him sing the phone book. The book to the musical was a little weak, but the casting made up for it. I over heard a women behind me say she was friends with Jerry, and he'd told her this was the best cast the show has ever had. I can certainly believe that. Not sure we'd go see it again with out star-turns, but it was a great evening.
