Tick...Tick... BOOM!

June 16th, 2006
Coronet Theatre, Los Angeles
Musical, we went with Troy and Debra

Wasn't sure what to expect from the composer/lyricist who wrote RENT. And I should say, B & I are not huge RENT-heads. This musical, however, is wonderful.

With a cast of three, it tells the story of a young, straight musical theatre composer who is about to turn 30, and he's having a major life crisis ~ his world, his girlfriend, his best friend and his career all pressing in on him, demanding he make a choice. Fantastic lyrics and melodies.

The Cast
Wilson Cruz as the best friend, Tami Tappan Damiano as the girl friend (she has such a clean, strong voice; we have seen her in several things) and seemingly, out of nowhere, Andrew Samonsky as Jon, our conflicted hero. The harmonies were tight, the melodies were strong and held your attention, and the actors filled the stage with their energy and personality. Very honest and solid performances.

We loved it. A strong evening of theatre. We're going to keep our eyes on The Coronet Theatre and Rubicon Theatre Company to see what else they offer.
