Wishful Drinking

January 7th, 2007
Geffen Playhouse, Westwood
One-Woman Show, went with Troy

Carrie Fisher is witty and endearing at the same time. She's a story-teller. Two hours of anecdotes and observations about her life, her marriage to Paul Simon, her entertaining mother Debbie Reynolds, her battles with addictions, her discovery of being bipolar, her lothario father and and humorous grandmother, and her Star Wars experiences with George Lucas and also an affair with her Star Wars "Marlboro Man." Toward the end of her show, she said the very telling line "Imagine what I'm leaving out!"

A very entertaining and intimate evening. I bet she's thinking of taking it to Broadway.

We LOVED this show and were lucky to see it on a night with Debbie Reynolds in attendance and with a Q&A afterwards. Waiting for Carrie to come out for the session after the show, Debbie went up to the stage and started informally answering questions from the audience. She even started crying when talking about Carrie's bipolar disorder. What a close relationship they have, even though they couldn't be more different. Neither had anything too nice to say about sad old Eddie Fisher.
