Paint Your Wagon

December 12th, 2004
Geffen Playhouse at The Brentwood
Los Angeles
Musical, went with Troy

We actually enjoyed the playfulness of this western musical. It was fun. And it was fun to see someone we knew in the cast. The problem with reviewing old musicals is viewing them as historical and taking them for what they are, not ranking on them for not being modern. I don't know that this one will ever come back to Broadway, but there were some fun songs and the singing and acting were great.

The plot... er, well, young fillie falls for Native American, and Papa Don't Preach, and throw in a mormon, and there's gold in them thar hills, and happy ending. Yup. That's about it.

It gets an extra half a star, making a total of 3, because of the singing and solid casting.
